cannot connect to another router

If you get a routine installation the cable guy will leave it with the default password, SSID the default and broadcast enabled, encryption enabled, no MAC address permissions set. If you configured the router yourself you probably did the same. The good side is that you should remember what you did, perhaps not!

Regarding the installation disk, I suppose it depends what it had on it. Connecting another PC is so simple, providing you know the password/key that the disk would not be helpful.

Another possible issue - did you make sure that you had no spaces at the start or end of any names, passwords or keys when you typed in the router configuration or when trying to connect?

Something I'll mention. Any time wireless communication to the router goes belly-up, you can connect any PC to the router with an Ethernet cable. Use your browser to connect to the router (192.168.1.1 in your case) and troubleshoot the problem. If you press the router reset at any time it will default to factory settings and has to be reconfigured.

To ping see my post #17, bottom section first item, ping to 192.168.1.1 All that does is send packets to the router address which get sent back to confirm communication. In my last post I suggested you do that on her PC just so you know what it looks like. It's useful for troubleshooting.

The longer set of information, second half of post #16, where you have to access the router, you should have made a note of all that when you configured, just for eventualities like now. Maybe you did not see any of that using the install disk. Go into the router to check the settings and write them down. I forgot to add that when you note the security WPA or WEM to note the algorithm TKIP or AES.
