ok i'm not really sure if this should go under this subject but earlier today i downloaded a video off the web and i'm trying to delete it now but it wont let me. If i right click no delete button shows up and i really need it off of my computer, it is taking up too much space. I was wondering if anybody could possibly help me delete this file. Under the description it says it is a self extracting file i'm not sure if that matters but please help!

p.s. I have also tried to delete it in safe mode and i've downloaded fileassasin and another program similar and still does not work it says the file name is invalid

Gee? First you need a Welcome to the Computer Forum! http://www.computerforum.com/70672-official-welcome-thread.html And the usual reminder given to new members to review the http://www.computerforum.com/52038-forum-rules.html

The file is probably protected under administrative permissions where something created new registry values. The effort to manually find and delete a file when booting to the recovery console in XP isn't any fun either. But wiithout Windows loaded there are no reigstry items loaded along with any new startups. The sefl extracting suggests an installer of some type if not to simply decompress the actual file. For XP the following may help.

Windows XP
In Windows XP, there are a couple ways to remove an undeleteable file, a manual way, and a couple automated ways using some freeware programs. First, I'll show you the manual way.

Manual Method

If you already know the path to the file, please skip to Step 7 http://www.pchell.com/support/undeletablefiles.shtml

I finally deleted it even though i had to delete the whole folder it was in and now have to re download over 100 songs...thanks for the help i appreciate it

Look under your user name in the DocumentsandSettings folder to see if you find it in the "user name's My Documents>MyVideos" sub folder there by chance. When you are right clicking on the file where are you are seeing this in WMP? You have to browse the hard drive and once located in the folder mentioned above or somewhere else try right clicking on it there. With the file name known the quick way is to run a file search to show all locations.
