cannot display video mode

i installed my new pci geforce 5500 and when i went to install it, it starts up like regular then itgoes black and words come up on the screen saying "Cannot Display this video mode" and it does nothing from there.PLZ HELP

How old is your monitor?

my comp is a dell dimension 3000 wth a flat panel and its about a year old. Do you HAVE to have a different plug for flat panels than the regular ones with teh CRTs

Not always, if it fits it should work. Do you still have your old video card? Try putting back in, change the resolution and color quality to the lowest. Shutdown, insert the new card, boot up. Hopefully it comes on at VGA mode and you can install the drivers from there.
