guys,
whenever i try to open a file such as acrobat reader, it says "cannot open up, choose file from below to open" ALSO THE same thing when i try and download WINAMP, it says "cannot open file ,choose a file from below"

HERES WHAT IT SAYS: (IVE TRIED OPENING WITH I.E. BUT NOTHING)
"to open the file, windows needs to know what program created it. windows can go online to look it up automatically or you can manually select it from a list of programs on your computer"

use the web service to find the approp. program

or

select the program from the list.

It depends on the type of file you are downloading. If you are unfamiliar with the format the first thing to do would be to choose the online option in order to learn what types of programs use that type of file. If it was a pdf type file you would need a program like Adobe's Acrobat Reader. For an mpeg II file you might download WinAmp or an older SuperDVD Player.

yea i've had that problem a lot too. You are probably trying to download something that windows is not familiar with, for example videos from cell phones. I would recommend choosing the online choice and find out about the file. There is usually some kind of free utility you can download that will download or open the application.

My question is that windows would normally recognize which file to use to open winamp, now it does not, same thing with acrobat, anything other computer i use it recognizes acrobat and opens automatically w/o going thru a list and picking. .... So your saying open the winamp using the MPEG II?

Mpeg II files will play without problems on WMP 10 + 11. When you double click on a media file stored on the hard drive the default player will usually run it. When double clicking on a mpeg II here IrfanView will open a window in one corner of the screen to run it right then. It sounds like you need to either reinstall Winamp or use another player.
