Canon 400D error

Hey guys

Got new family camera about a month ago, Canon 400d with standard 35-70 lense. Also got a HOYA 28-200 lense which is soo much better for what we use it for but the thing is i keep getting this error message -

Err99, shooting is not possible. Turn the power switch to off and on again or re-install the battery.

Every so often it will work perfectly but sometimes yoiu cant get it to work. One way which works is if you spin the lense so that it slightly off angle in the camera but then you only got manual focus so not ideal.

Any ideas cause this is really annoying
thanks a bunch!

I have a Canon EOS400D and never had the message. Does it only happen when using the HOYA 28-200 Lens? As could be as not a official Canon lens?

yeh only when using the HOYA lense, even though it is not an official lense i would have thought it would work. The thing is it works perfectly with that lense sometimes just not all the time so.... Bloody annyoing!

i have a 350D and i got that err99 message and my camera was dead and cannon wouldn't fix it they said that the insides were corroded and that's not covered
but from what i hear ERR99 is a generic code but for my camera it out to be for a connection error you would do best to contact cannon or hoya
or try wiping the 7 gold pads on the lense with something worthy of the job

i only got the error when using my 18-55mm and not my 90-300mm
but my camera got wet and all the images were blue so mine camera was wrecked as well as the lens
so for me this error was terminal but unless you got the camera or lens wet then i dout you have the same problem

hope you sort this out mate

Yeh its not been wet or anything, only month old or summat. I will get in touch with canon, see what they say. Bet i need another lense! :(

It might have something to do with the contacts (if the Hoya is an AF Lens). To be honest with you, you have a good camera, so I would only use Canon lenses or compatible 3rd party lenses (Sigma or some Tamron lenses). I would only use Hoya filters, not lenses. How much did the Hoya cost you?
