Can't access neither ping

Well my problem is sometimes I can't access the shared folder that is being shared on other computer,at that time I can't even ping that computer.But sometimes I can. This things happen frequently. So guys help me out.

I use windows server 2003 and the shared folder is at XP pro
 
More details needed to troubleshoot.

First of all, what is your network setup? Do you use a switch, router, or direct connection?

Do other computers have the same problem?

Have you tried to use "traceroute" instead of ping to see where it fails?
 
Sorry for delay. Well I am on switch, other computers using XP works fine. and traceroute says unable to resolve target system.
