can't access net

Hi,
I have 2 computers, a desktop and laptop. I can use the desktop to be online and use the the net no problem. I had been able to just unplug the cable from the desktop, plug into the laptop and use the net on the laptop too. Then all of a sudden I can't access the net on the laptop. I did nothing different. I have tried pinging sites and get nothing. Nothing will load. I have even put my firewall in "allow all" mode and nothing either. All the settings are the same on both computers. Does anyone have any advice on how I can get it working again??

Thanks

Try start>control panel>network conections and then right click for option and select properties make sure the connection is enabled and make sure a box is not ticked which says "protect my computer by not allowing this computer to connect to the internet".

try also right clicking and selecting repair connection if the above dont work,

Mike

Thanks for the reply.

I have already checked and the connection is enabled and I also tried to repair with no sucess.

On Network Connections I have 2 connections listed. Local Area Connection which is the one I use and is enabled and one called 1394 connection. I thought maybe the other connection could have something to do with it however I had that connection (disabled) and it worked fine before. I went away for 2 days and when I got back and tried to connect it wouldn't work and I can't uunderstand why. I thought it might be my firewall (Sygate) but I have put in "allow all" mode and still didnt work so thinking it is something else.

Ok, so still not working on my laptop.

I thought all you had to do was make sure the ip connections were ok under netwrok connections and you could have access to the net wherever you were, as after I changed the connections to be correct for where I wanted to use my laptop I had no problem. (very easy)

As the connection settings are correct can anyone suggest where else I look to get the internet working on the laptop. Maybe I deleted something by mistake. Any ideas?? Thanks
