Cant Access Router

Hi all,

Got a weird one, a friend called me to enquire what her wireless password was as she couldnt get into her router to find out.

I remoted into her laptop, through her router, and put 192.168.1.1 in the address bar, only for "page not displayed" to be returned.

This happened on IE7 and 8, Firefox and Chrome. I know the router works as I downloaded Firefox onto her laptop tonight (thinking it may be an IE problem).

I can ping the router but not access its pages through a browser.

I have scanned her laptop with MBAM and MSE, nothing found. The laptop does not "play up" apart from this problem.

Any thoughts please?

Usually a reboot of the router will fix this. Unplug it, let it sit for a minute and plug it back in. I've had issues like this in the past.

after unplugging there should be a reset button. Maybe need a ink pen.
Hold in also for reset for maybe 20 sec.

Thats to reset the router back to factory conditions. As my friend is some 30 miles away with very basic knowledge we wont be doing that just yet. Thanks anyway.

Oh, and the router needs to be switched on for the reset button to work.

Check the IP Config and see what the default gateway is. That'll be your router's IP address.

Thanks John, done the trick.

I would've done it automatically if I was on site, but not being there was trying to do it while friend was eating their dinner!!
