Can't add custom programs with "Open with" function

Hey everyone, I'm trying to associate a file with a program using the "Open with" feature and it never lets me add a custom association. I can only use the ones in the list.

Any ideas what's going on here? It's a pain in the butt to have to go in the program and find the file every time!

I appreciate your help!
 
Exactly where can you not get any farther? Can you not see "choose default program"? I know there are alternatives to choosing default programs to be used. I think it's under Folder Options in XP (just look under Control Panel) or default programs in Vista.
 
I can browse to select programs, it's just that when I double click on them, they don't go in the list.
 
Ah man, awesome. It didn't work at first, but I renamed the .exe's and changed them in the registry and work.

I really appreciate your help! Thanks a lot! :D

Sorry so your saying you actually renamed the EXE itself for the app? I'm having the same issue and anything I add to the list simply does not appear?!? Help
