cant beat this thing

ok so im working on this computer. its being owned by viruses. I got it in safe moade so I could run Xsoftspy and a few otehr programs to get rid of soem of the stuff. After finding a few thoursand things, the computer still WONT let me instal Norton or AVG. They both get errors trying to instal. I got firefox to work but I cant get IE to instal so I can do a windows update because of the new verifying thing, it wotn verify windows so it wont instal... Also the proces csrss.exe is staying at 100% all the time. sooo theres a virus controling it. IDDEASSSS PLLEASEEE!!!???

Do you have an installation disk? If so the first step right off would be to get Windows running and clean to then install AVG and other cleaners to locate and remove whatever is on the drive. That would be an alternative to reformatting after deleting the current installation and partition. http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm is one of several articles on performing an "intstall to repair" where the bulk of your files and folders will remain intact. With Windows running normally you could try then to isolate and remove any contaminated files. This method will also start the process of creating new system restore points since you have to consider the current ones infected. If there are no important files to try and heal with an antivirus program the actual best method of course is a drive wipe to rule out possible further problems.
