cant burn 4x on 8x drive

just recently purchased this dvd burner from new egg

in its description it says 8x dvd-r burning capabilities, so all i have right now are 4x disks, and it wont allow me to burn on them, why is that, im thinking about sending it back, but i have a shipment of 8x disks coming, ....any suggestions as to why those disks aren't burning...holla back

either your firmware isn't up to date or the discs just won't allow it. Some 4x discs you can burn at 8x (I could w/ TDK's and Verbatim). I had some 4x Princo (shut up Praetor, they were free ), and they could only burn at 4x or slower.
