Cant burn because Nero thinks that the file is too big

I have a rather large file that wouldn't fit on a single DVD, but it hasn't been completely downloaded. I know that there is enough room on one dvd to fit what has been downloaded. However, Nero thinks that the file is as big as it will be when it is done and says it won't fit on a DVD. How can I get around this?

throw it in a zip or rar archive, usually when a file has an arbitrary size that doesn't necessarily represent the real file size then when it is compressed, the "empty" space will be compressed.

if it is a video file, just use win dvd. this function is also useful if you want to play it on a dvd player :)
