Can't burn DVD's...Help

When I try to burn a movie on a DVD, it ejects the disc and says to "please put in a blank disc". The dvd's are new and I even tried 3 different disc, but I still get this message. My computer says it burns CD's and DVD's. This is a new computer < 6mos old. Any help would be greatly appreciated!:)
 
What burning software are you using? If it's XP's built-in burning functions, DVDs are NOT supported, only CDs and CD-RWs.
If you want to burn DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, you'll need a software package, like Nero, Roxio or (for free) DeepBurner or similar.
