can't connect to internet after fresh win7 install

My motherboard is an asus m5a78l-usb3, I've just done a fresh install of windows because my computer was running slow and now my PC doesn't even recognise an ethernet connection (it just has the red x over it)
I've already tried downloading all the possible motherboard drivers again along with all my AMD drivers and its still not working
what can I do?

the red x is in the bottom right of my screen, it's where it would normally say if you're connected to Ethernet or wifi

Do you have an ethernet cable plugged in? Do you have any devices with missing drivers in Device Manager?

Did you install the specific NIC driver? What particular motherboard drivers did you install? Sometimes motherboard packs only include things like chipset and things like SATA drivers but might not include NIC/Sound/etc.

If you look under the driver section on the ASUS website there's a specific 'LAN' category that you'd need to install the Realtek NIC driver:

My last motherboard had a similar problem, and i just ended up putting in a sperate pci nic, and that worked fine

You wasted your money on something that is likely just a driver problem.
