Can't connect to Internet

I have a Toshiba laptop on which I just replaced the hard drive. I also did a clean install of Windows XP Pro SP2. When I plugged my network cable into the laptop, it doesn't recognize the connection and I can not access the internet.

Another laptop I have works fine when I plug it in the same way. Is there something else that needs to be installed on the laptop since I did a clean install of Windows? Should it automatically detect the connection?

Please advise.....thanks
 
What drivers will I need to re-install for internet connectivity, sound, video, etc.
