Cant connect to internet

[HELP_ME]

my friend is having a connection problem, he cant connect to anyhintg (MSN, steam etc) when he types ipconfig in coomand prompt the following is returned :

Ethernet adpater local area connetion:

media state... media disconnected


when he checks his local connection it shows a red X meaning he is not connected. i also had him try using "ipconfig /renew" but it said something about not being able to perform this when media is offline. Anyone have any suggestions? i need help.

yeah a dumb question but solve many matters

if it's plugged then most probably the ethernet cable is bad, use another one

well i can assure you this but he said he checked, something may be plugged in worng though...

nah it wont show a red x if it's disabled it would be grayed out,
what kof meant to say was to 'right-click" the connection and click enable
