Can't decide between these two asus boards

And whats the difference between USB 2.0 and USB 3.0? Faster speeds? If so, since im running off of a Verizon Wireless USB Modem i'd be able to pull quicker speeds then this old board im currently using with USB 2.0's?

Up to a theoretical 5.0 Gb/s with USB 3.0, versus a theoretical 0.5 Gb/s with USB 2.0

If I understand things correctly, you won't see any speed benefit with your wireless NIC plugged into a USB 3.0 port on your PC. Although USB 3.0 is backwards compatible with USB 2.0, it has a connection with different/bigger/more contacts inside. Your modem surely doesn't have this faster USB 3.0 connector.

USB 2.0 real world speed is something like 30-50Mb/s. Wireless NICs like the one you have don't talk to the Internet that fast--more like 3-10Mb/s so you wouldn't see a speed advantage anyways.

USB 3.0 puts out more power though. Meaning if you have a USB dock you might not need to also plug it into the wall and this could be a benefit.

It's probably most useful if you buy an external USB 3.0 HD and do backups with it.
 
USB3 is really going to kick off once the majority of devices manufactured are using it. external hard drives will actually have good speeds, same with flash drives and things. Also more power from the port = more new kinds of devices you could make for USB... for example coffee warmers and such, they already have but not too good...
 
Okay so which board would u go with thou.... I honestly don't see a difference at all in the boards execpt chipset's and one has integrated video and one doesn't.....
 
id get the AMD chipset if your going to do a AMD cpu, as the whole SLI-Certification costs alot of money for not alot of gain...running a CF style board would be cheaper and probably more beneficial, as the ATI cards lately have been handing it to Nvidia anyway...plus the ati cards run more efficiently on idle too...so hey why even look at Nvidia?
 
Depends on if you want Crossfire or SLI.

The 980a is a Nvidia SLI board thats X16/X16 in SLI.

The 890GX is a ATI Crossfire board thats X8/X8 in crossfire.

Have to have a 890FX to do X16/X16 in Crossfire.

Well thats what im going to be using on the board... Prob gonna save up for the 1mb Radeon HD 5770 thou..

So the 890gx is best choice? Its been 5 yrs since I built my last computer so the differnce between SLI and Crossfire is like another language to me...

My Current Setup is:
Asus P4P800 Socket 478 Intel Mobo
Intel P4 2.6ghz Dual Core
Nvidia Geforce 6600 256mb

Im ditching this fosil for a new computer so I can play gaming in games such as CS:S and World of Warcraft and pull over 20fps..
 
Looking at your set-up, I don't think it would be likely for you to run dual video card

Save the money of Asus M4A89GTD PRO/USB3, go for AMD 870 chipset
