Can't delete folders

There are some folders I can't delete because Windows says theyre being used, while theyre not  How can I delete them now?

try oneof the 2 ways:
First try to restart ur PC,andthen delete it.
or boot ur pc in safe mode, and then delete it(just it and don'tplay with other files).

Are there files inside that are running or are open by your computer? For exaple a exe file that is running in the background? a dll file which is being used my a program? Or maybe a windows media file which is being watched... Somthing is using the file... Look for it. Just go into the folder and delete the things individually and find the one that wont delete... thats the culprit... :)

I'll try in safe mode, cause I went into a folder, deleted everything in it (songs, I could delete them all, and I checked for hidden files too, there are none) so the folder is empty. Then I try to delete it again, but it just won't

this is the easyiest way: first open the folder and delete things seperatly until u narrow it down to the files that wont delete, then open up task manager and end the task of the files and delete them... somtimes the files relaunch in that case you have to end the task then delete the file fast b4 it has a chance to launch :) or the safemode way

Not trying to hijack here but

I have Kinda same problem, and then some it wont let me move, or rename folder as well.
I can delete the mp3 itself or move them to a different folder but only if I dont mess with the folder they are in. Once they are moved or deleted I can erase the original folder if I reboot.
If I create a new folder, (which I can delete till) I add the files in it acts the same way as it did before.
Dont have any running programs, and dont want to delete them, just move them, and rename.
Any ideas?
Safe mode and claiming ownership did not work.

This is a common occurance with bit torrent directories

My collection is from personal c.ds, cassettes and hell even vinyl. NO I repeat NONE are Bit Torrent files here sorry. I have the originals and thinking of feeding them all in again but what a pain. Hell it took me years to organize to the state they are in now.
Funny thing is they would move rename and delete easy till recently.
I changed three wma folders to mp3's and well since the file conversion I have lost ability to move all the folders (I have on other drives as well) freely.
This collection dates as far back as my first trs 80 comp.

If safe mode dose not work try deleting them from a different user. I have had the same before and normally a simple reboot fixes the problem.

first enable viewing of all files/folders, system and hidden files as well. (open "my computer"/Tools/Folder options/Veiw tab)

second, now see if there is anything in the folders.

third, either on the folder or file that you can't delete, rightclick/properties make sure the "read only" attribute box is fully unchecked. then go to the security tab and make sure that YOUR user account has FULL permissions, (if you only have change permissions then you won't be able to delete it).

forth, post back if non of that works, we'll dig deeper...
