Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had this problem and really need some help here...

I Had copied a large .mov file of about 700Mb from a thumbdisk to my harddrive. Halfway during the transfer the entire process freezed and I have to rebot the computer. After that I could not delete the file anymore, what i get is windows calculating the time for deletion, but its a forever wait without anything happening.

I have tried scanning the computer, restarting the computer, defrag the harddisk (not sure if it works..), but still no help.

Would really appreciate if anyone could suggest what to do..

Do you have 700MB free on your c:\ drive because when you delete a file it moves it to the recycle bin. so you have to have the free space on the drive before it can be moved.

First you need a Welcome to the Computer Forum! http://www.computerforum.com/70672-official-welcome-thread.html and the usual reminder given to new members to review the http://www.computerforum.com/52038-forum-rules.html

The first thing you will to do there is clear up some driver space by copying what files you can onto removable media for temporary deletion from the hard drive. The drive currenly lacks space for virtual memory causing the problems you are seeing.

One freeware can also help by removing now useless temp folders and IE offline content. CCleaner is found at http://www.ccleaner.com/ Once you have enough drive space free the larger video file(s) can be sent to the recycle bin which itself is a form ot temporary folder. When files go over a certain size Windows will permanently delete them once you confirm the prompt for confirmation.

you can right click the recycle bin go to properties and see how much space is allocated to the recycle bin.

If that doesnt work try the program move on boot, it's great.

Kent.

The default seen on the recycle bin is generally 10% of the drive's actual capacity. But if the drive is cramped and lacks room for virtual memory disabling the creation of paging files in addition to removing others will probably help the most.

Right click on your Recycle Bin-click properties-then check do not move files to the Recycle Bin. See if that works to delete the file, just remember to recheck it later.

if you want to remove it permanently press and hold shift and then delete, then it would bypass the recycle bin.
and if it doesn't delete then you know that its not a recycle bin issue.
