Can't Dual Channel?

I recently bought and setup and new computer, the computer is in my sig.. I am trying to put 4 gigs of RAM in it, two sets of 1 gig sticks. Well when I put the stick in dual channel mode the computer doesn't boot, when not set to dual channel the computer runs fine. I think this problem has something to do with the mobo but not sure, I already updated the BIOS to the newest version. Can someone help me?

Many motherboards (especially older ones), can't utilize dual-channel if all 4 banks are filled. Refer to your motherboard manual to see the exact specifications on which memory configurations work with dual-channel.

the manual really doesn't give me much; it has some pictures illustrating that i can have all four banks filled but thats it.

I have also just noticed since I updated my BIOS Windows is saying I only have a dual core processor. I don't get this!!!
Off topic, but which OS are you using?

And you are sure you used the correct BIOS update for your motherboard correct? Many companies use different BIOS' for various revisions of the board, or maybe you downloaded an older version.

I'm running Vista. I restarted my computer and it now recognizes the four cores but still won't do dual channel. I went to MSI's website, typed in the mobo name, and downloaded the latest version of BIOS for my mobo. So, I think I have the latest BIOS, I could be wrong though.

Vista what, theres 256 combinations of Vista, wondering on exact version!:D

I think Bill wanted 512 versions, but it wasn't cost effective, Vista Basic would have to be $200.

Seriously though, is it 64-bit? Premium? Business? Hook us up with the exact version.

Oh Vista Ultimate... right, just saw that, is it x86?

Unless it's specifically outlined in the manual that only two sticks will run dual channel, I don't think you'll find the exact problem. There are a lot of unusual interactions between RAM and mobos... some mobos wont work with certain RAM for no obvious reason... sometimes weird things will happen like these two sticks work by them selves and this stick works by it's self, but if you put them together it wont boot... all kinds of odd things like that that you really can't do anything about.

I am wondering if this has to do with some defective RAM. Have you tried putting in only two gigabytes of memory switching the sets to see if one set works in dual channel mode?

actually, I think now that it is a mobo problem. I tested some different setups of the RAM and I found out that when I put the RAM into slots 1 and 3 the computer boots fine when RAM is in slots 2 and 4 the computer doesn't boot. What do you think?

I had the same problem. I got my motherboard with four sticks of 1GB Corsairs RAM but I cannot run all four at once. I can only run up to 2GB. My friend checked out the DFI forum and found out that it's the compatibility. We also saw some people with the exact same MOBO that I have and they're running 4GB (obviously with a different manufacturer). I think if you get some other manufacturer, it might be able to run up to 4GB.
