Can't enable Punkbuster in Mac

When I play Wolfenstein Enemy Territory, I click, "ENABLE PUNKBUSTER", but all I hear is the click sound, and it remains UNABLED. I don't understand it, HELP. (I'm in Mac OS X tiger)
 
I have suffered this very similar problem playing Quake 3 Arena in the past (on a windows machine). What worked for me was to enable punkbuster via the console.

"PB_CL_ENABLE" without the quotes to enable.
"PB_CL_DISABLE" without the quotes to disable.

this might not be to helpful but... i'd rather not install crap-ware like punkbuster on my computer anyway. plenty of non-punkbuster servers without cheaters.
