im looking for drivers for this SATA drive
WD1600JS
and i cant seem to find them. id love a link if any of you other computer forum-surfers can find it. thanks alot:)

The cd that comes with the mother board will usually have a list of options for sata drives or setting up RAID arrays. With the newer Asus model here I simply used the format floppy option first while Windows was running instead of booting from the cd. Once the floppy is formatted with the Asus disk you select the sata 32bit option if a 64bit option is present and have it copy the necessary drivers directly from the cd to the floppy there. The XP installer will readily load the drivers when choosing the F6 option when it first starts up.

the board, for some reason, apparently only supports 150 MB/s transfer rate. i just have to throw on a controller and im set

Don't go out and buy a controller. The extra 150MB/s doesn't help at all, it is just there for marketing.

The method of creating a driver disk goes quick by having Windows running and loading the board's software disk. Use the option seen there to format the floppy if that is seen for the older model board there. Then choose the make disk with 32bit sata option to see the default drivers copied onto the floppy. When booting with the cd for this you can run into problems where one driver won't be copied correctly for some reason.

When the floppy is ready press the F6 option right away to see those loaded and the installer should readily detect the drive. Generally a web search won't find the drivers or they don't seem to load correctly when a disk is made up that way. The utility on the Asus disk seems to have it's own method for copying them. Here I created the primary partition first to see to the XP Pro installer readily detect that and install Windows on a new sata here. It went on smooth as silk.
