I've tried numerous tools. I replaced the stock HDD with a SSD on my Dell Inspiron 3531 laptop. I also replaced the 4GB chip of RAM with an 8GB chip. I cloned Windows 8.1 from my HDD to the SSD, but then there were many BSOD errors.
I realized I should have updated the BIOS first. So, now I'm trying to figure out how to update the BIOS without having a working operating system. The SSD is clean and formatted now.
I tried taking the BIOS file and putting it alone with no other files on a FAT32 formatted USB drive. That didn't work. It keeps saying "Remove disks or other media. Press any key to restart."
I thought about finding a way to burn an ISO image of the file to the USB flash drive. Perhaps that would make it a better bootable flash drive.
I've run out of ideas. I'm downloading the latest Ubuntu version now because I can't think of anything else to do to update the BIOS. However, I have a feeling I'll still have to update the BIOS before adding Ubuntu on.
Please help.
