and i dont have a reinstallation disc to reformat it
anybody know what i can do..im also using a cable modem if that matters

first thing to check is
Go to start menu then my network places then vew network connections then left lick on the connection and click properties.

Make sure you the following install if not install them
client for microsoft networks
file and printer sharing for microsoft networks
internet protocol(tcp/ip)

if that dont work I try to think of something else to try.

Try going into IE, go to Tools|Internet Options, click on the Connections tab, click on LAN Settings, and make sure you don't have a proxy server set.

Good ole ethernet. Had the same problem on my work station for a test run till I went cable.

Try this:

1.) (In web browser) Tools - Internet options - Connection
2.) Click Setup
3.) Run yourself threw the New Connection Wizard

im also using a cable modem if that matters

Why are you messing around with an ethernet card then?
