can't get laptop to boot from cd

I am trying to install ubuntu on my laptop. I went into the bios and changed the boot device to cd-rom but it will not boot from the cd it just goes straight to windows. also on my main boot up screen I can select from hdd, cdrom, floppy, or network. It doesn't matter what I choose it just goes straight to windows. It is a toshiba satelite m45 running xp.

Are you saving after altering the boot options? Is the CMOS battey dead?

use a utility like kill disk to wipe the drive clean first

or u have a bad burn, try reburnin the iso at a slower speed
