Can't get on the Internet

Hi, my friend's computer cannot get online from yesterday. The problem is that when she tries to get online, there is a small window pop up and said she installed an unknown software so that cannot get online.

I just wanna ask whether her computer is infected by virus or just the internet setting problem??? Thanks
 
That's either going to be a virus or A LOT of spyware/adware. Many computers that I've come across the browser will just shut down when you try to go online because of the massive amount of spyware on the computer.
 
It sounds like he is connected but the window tells you he isn't, but what browser is he using. Does it happen with any browser, IE, Firefox, etc
 
Does she already have any spyware/adware programs? If so, disconnect from the Internet first, then run Adaware, Spybot etc. Many browser hijacking programs will run in the background when you don't even know it. If she is using IE, when she re-connects use Firefox (or Mozilla instead if she needs to download FF).

I use a program called Pest Patrol that finds (and deletes) just about everything. If you have a pesky spyware problem you could download that and run it as well. I
