for some websites, i can't go online. i do have internet connectivity, but for example, when i go to [hotmail.com], the website loads, but when i try to log in, it's as though i dont have internet. i tried doing this: [http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/article04-107], but when i tried doing it with the 1500 MTU value (whatever that is), i get this message on command prompt:

Packet needs to be fragmented but DF set.
Packet needs to be fragmented but DF set.
Packet needs to be fragmented but DF set.
Packet needs to be fragmented but DF set.

Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost 4 (100% Loss),

does anyone know what this means and/or can help? and i also tried the two other MTU values, but i only get the messaged "timed out" for both. any ideas? any comments would be greatly appreciated

hmm...this could possibly be a firewall issue. Are you currently using a firewall, and if so which one? I've had this problem a while back (with hotmail.com too actually) and it turned out my firewall was blocking access to secure sites such as email, paypal, etc...

internet explorer, but for some reason it works now, so nevermind. thanks for the comments though. maybe it was a firewall issue.

Yea, I had this problem with hotmail one night and couldn't for the life of me think why the Rich Text Editor wouldn't work. Later I discovered McAfee was blocking it. The privacy service has prevented quite a few programs such as internet radio from working properly in the past but now I've cracked it!!
