i got the CD's in the mail today and i tried to install it, but at the end when it goes to boot up i get an error about about invalid X windows...or somethign liek that....anyone know what this is/means and if i have to DL it could i have a link? thanks.

Which version are you trying to install, i recently finished an install of Ubuntu 6.06 (Dapper Drake) 32-bit. All went fine. Did you let the install manager sort out the partitions for oyu or did you do it yourself. Also are you sure it didnt mention X-Server not X-Window...

where does it get to when its booting up? do you actually see any UBUNTU splash screens or is it still in DOS, do you even get to GNU Grub Bootloader?

for the record i downloaded my copy of it from their website, official, link is - http://www.ubuntu.com/download - pick a mirror.

Are you dual booting it with windows? If so is windows on the same phsyical disk, different partition? Differnt disk entirely?

ok...i copied down the error and this is what it says

"Failer to start the X server (graphical interface). it is likley that it is not set up correctly. would you like to view the X server output to diagnose the problem?"

then when reading through it i found this

"Fatal server error: no screens found."

whats the suposed to mean?

ok.... found this on their site but still need help i think http://www.ubuntu.com/FixForUpgradeIssue

i have not installed thi syet....so there fore how would i log in to update it and what not?

ok, i thought it would be Xserver, seeing as XWindow doesnt exist, lol, but ok... Have you followed the instructions on that page. I've never encountered this problem before, im guessing that the kernel doesnt natively support your graphics. What graphics are you running on?
