Can't install windows to ssd

I am trying to install windows to a new drive as my old os drive seems to have died. When I boot into windows install I go through all the options till I get to the place where I choose the install drive. For some reason here the drive does not show up. I though ok maybe I need drivers so I click browse to install them however the drive shows up in that section. If I go back and click repair I get told the drive is locked. So does anyone have any answer to this issue?

Sata drive windows 8

I would disconnect all drives except the new one, boot from a Boot n Nuke cd and nuke it. Then try again.

Have you tried to set the SATA mode to [IDE]?

When installing an OS to an SSD you want to run it as AHCI, not IDE.
