Can't load OS

New Member
Have built an new PC and am having no end of trouble installing OS.
Tried installing OEM XP & Vista but after files are copied and "Setup trying to start Windows" I get an error that "A problem has been dectected and windows has been shutdown to prevent damage .........". When I attempt to install Ubuntu I get the first install screen but when I choose to install or check disk for error the screen goes blank except for single blinking curser.

I am assuming (as PC is new) that one or more of the components is at fault, but how to best isolate which one?:confused:
 
Try running one RAM module at a time. Make sure all your components are seated and plugged in properly. What RAM are using and how are they configured? 2X1GB? 4X1GB?
