Cant play HD!

Thanx for checking out my thread guys! My problem:

I have a Dell Dimension 9150, Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.20 GHz, 2 GB RAM.
Video Card: Nvidia GeForce 7800 GTX.

Now, everyone I've talked too says I should be able to play HD 1080p!
But when I do, with VLC, it skips like hell.. why?

Im talking about .wmv and .mp4 files btw.. Also, yes im a noob - have patience! ;)

I take it you have a single core processor (probably Pentium 4 with HT). I think I was just poking around with a PC around the same age as yours and it really struggled with most HD videos.

Honestly, that system does have a bit of a age on it and is rather sluggish for today's standards. All I could suggest is to update all your drivers, try enabling hardware acceleration (EVR in Media Player Classic), but it might simply be too much for that system.

Hey wallstreet, noob here too. Dont feel to bad I've been looking at new computers at the store to buy and alot of them struggle to play my canon 1080p clips. ive found only two computers that will play them. HP Pavilion AY022AA Desktop Computer - 1 x Core i3 530 2.93 GHz 6 GB DDR3 SDRAM - 1 TB HDD - DVD-Writer - Gigabit Ethernet - Windows 7 Home Premium x64 and Pavilion p6340f •Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400
•8 GB RAM Ddr3
•1 Tb Hard Drive
•Intel Gma X4500 Graphics
•Win 7 Premium and both of those have integrated graphics card. I've tried numerous other computers with dedicated graphics cards hp, asus, gateway... and they either were jerky or pixelated. like i said i'm new but that doesn't even make sense to me. if you find out why this is happening please let me know. good luck.

Kind of solved the problem!

This is for you guys having the same prob as me, who will look up this thread up at some point, and for you guys who helped! ;)

I've got K-Lite pack (Media Player Classic included) and Core-Avc Professional (Haali Media Splitter is included) and I added them all in External Filters under options in MPC. My external filters are:

1. CoreAvc Video Decoder
2. NVidia video decoder
3. NVidia audio decoder
4 Haali Media Splitter (AR)

It plays smoother than ever but not perfect. Though no skipping or stops in audio or video, the motion isn't as smooth as it could be. But this might be the best I can get with my system.. def watchable though, don't get me wrong! Anyway, thanks for all the help!

If anyone has any more suggestions on tweaks, codecs or filters please keep posting, there are room for improvement! :D

What's the point having 8GB of DDR3 when you've got integrated graphics? :)
