Cant reload windows on my desktop

Im trying to reload windows 8 on my desktop.

The hard drive is good and is completely wiped clean, there is nothing on it.

Im using a windows 8 iso disk that is in the dvd drive.
Every time I start the computer I cant get to the boot sequence menu.

All it wants to do is run some bios scan, then it ask for a password which I don't know what that's all about so all I do is hit enter 3 times and it ask to resume.

After that the screen turns black and says this:

error: unknown filesystem.
grub rescue>

Whats going on?

I would say you don't have the correct disk in or its not done correctly. You just can't have the iso file on a dvd. You actually have to write the image to the dvd. How did you burn the dvd?

windows 8. I just burned it today. Rechecked it to make sure too.

Heres something weird though. I took the harddrive out of that computer and put it in my other computer with the dvd with windows 8 on it, and its letting me install it.

OK, sounds like when it was in the other computer it wasn't booting to the dvd drive first. I bet you have some files leftover on the hard drive that it was loading up and thats why you got the grub error. Put it back in the other computer and go into the bios and change the boot order so the dvd drive is first boot device.

Well see that was the problem. I cant get into bios to change the boot order

This is a little weird.

I went ahead and installed windows 8 on the harddrive with my other desktop.
Took the harddrive and put it back in the original desktop.

Booted it up and it did the same thing by asking for a password. Maybe a bios password.

But it didn't have the grub rescue text this time and it booted into windows 8.

I may have set a bios password on this computer and don't member it or something. How do I find out if that's true and change it?

It just shows up when I first turn the computer on it comes up saying:

Password:

and the screen is blank.

Yes that is a bios/system password. When was the last time you used this machine? Did it ask for a password then? The only thing you can try doing is reset the cmos and see if it resets the password. Doubtful though.

Honestly if I did set it which I prolly did, it would have been over a year ago. Thats the last time I used this desktop.

I think I figured it out. I found a jumper pin on the board that says CLR RTC. Which is the cmos ram. It clears the date, time and pretty much everything out of the cmos and sets it back to default. Well I did that and it didn't ask for a password this time. Gona have to get back into the bios though and reset everything and also this computer now shuts itself down after like not using it for an hour randomly, turn it back on and says that the computer recovered from an unexpected error.

Gona see if this resetting the cmos fixed that and will report back.

UPDATE:

So upon logging into my computer, the whole desktop is not the same now and the computer isnt picking up my 2 monitors. So im assuming I have to re install allll of my drivers, Is this correct?

That could be due to the issue you installed windows while installed in a different machine and put the drive into this one. You need to install windows while the drive is installed in the machine its gonna be used in. If this is the case then reinstall windows with the drive in the computer its gonna be used in.

Think you might have been right. I went ahead and re installed windows 8 with the computer im using it on and things are working a little better. I already notice that I was able to download different internet browsers when I wasn't able to before. And also I can now change my background when I couldn't before.

Ill see if it restarts to night and we'll find it for sure if that was the issue!

Well everything else is working except the computer is still shutting down after awhile when I dont use it and when i turn it back on, it pops up with a message saying that my PC ran into a problem.

Make sure you don't have the pc set for hibernation. Just set so monitor shuts after so long.

Can you just check to make sure hibernation/sleep mode isn't enabled? There are issues with this on some computers. Also check event viewer to see if there are any entries explaining why it's shutting down.
