I have a 2008 Dell Vista laptop. For several years I've had a shortcut stuck on it's desktop that I haven't been able to delete. I don't remember the situation behind my installation or deletion of the software it shortcuts to, but I vaguely remember dumping it sometime back.
As far as I can make out, it was software probably attendant to holding private information such as passwords or credit card numbers in one place so one didn't have to remember their access information. Having read this thread's prior posts, I should note that the laptop's built-in fingerprint device has never worked well, and after Dell techs got frustrated trying to help when it was new, I gave up on the thing. In trying to check that device's info, I can't see any reference to Personal Safe.
Right clicking the icon provides only "Open", "Explore", "Create Shortcut", and "Rename" options. The icon consists of a yellow padlock at a slight angle and with a black keyhole in the center of its face. My research indicated there was Personal Safe software published by Verilune awhile back, but I can't locate such a company now to ask for assistance.
Apparently 2 years ago I tried getting rid of the shortcut by dragging it to the Unused Shortcuts folder, because there were 3 instances of it in there. I just now deleted those 3 because their right-click menus offered more options. But dragging the icon off the desktop into the Unused Shortcuts folder doesn't remove it from the Desktop; it merely creates a deletable copy of it in the U.S. folder. So you can get a sense of my frustration.
Any idea how to rid my desktop of this straggler? And no, there is virtually no hint of a Personal Safe program on my Programs and Features list in Control Panel.
