Can't run disc defrag

My old HP Pavilion (Celerion 600MHz) has had many issues lately. I finally installed Norton Anti Virus and Norton Utilities to try and fix the issues. Norton did find a virus and other corrupted files that were deleted. But before I installed this I could not complete a scan disc or a disc defrag. Now the Norton utilities managed to run a scan disc but can not run the disc defrag or speed disc as Norton calls it. I get an error message stating the HD may be configured wrong, please consult the readme.txt file.

Well the readme.txt file was no help and now the only thing I know how to do is replace the HD.

What do you suggest?

Thanx, KO.

try dloading adaware, it can possibly fix errors or registry problems that may be associated with viruses or spyware. once those things clear up sometimes some of the functions of your computer are restored.

i know what you need to do to getting it defreagging again but because this post is almost 2 years old there isn't much point in saying plus this guy probally has another computer by now.
