Can't shake a re-direct

cmh2001

New Member
I have been reading through this forum and following the advice given here. My computer is in a lot better shape than before I started, but I have an internet redirect that I can't seem to get rid of. It happends with both MS iExplorer and Firefox. When I first start either, shortly after it starts it redirects to some registry editor thing.
;)

Download and Run ComboFix
If you already have Combofix, please delete this copy and download it again as it's being updated regularly.
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.

In your next reply please post:
  • The ComboFix log
  • A fresh HiJackThis log
  • An update on how your computer is running

I couldn't find the ComboFix log. There was an output at the end of its' scan where it said it deleted some files from my Application Data folder, but it seemed to have crashed my Windows Explorer, so I had to reboot. After it came back I couldn't find anywhere that the log file might be.

The computer seems to be running well. No sign of a redirect yet.

Anyway, here is the HIjack log:

The combofix log is located at C:\combofix.txt. Just copy and paste the log back here.

I don't have that file. The attached picture shows the contents of the C root. I noticed that I have an entry there called Combofix, that is acting like a folder, but when I press the little '+' beside it I get a listing of all the drives on my computer, as shown on the left hand side of the picture.

Incidently, no redirects. Computer is running very well. I used to have a problem where my internet would drop out periodically, like every couple. I thought it was a hardware or a Comcast issue, which it still could be. But it hasn't happened in the last few days. It would be great if this solved everything.

That combofix icon changing like that usually happens when you have a bad infection and it won't run.

Rerun hijackthis and place checks next to the following entries.

Then click on fix checked at the bottom.

Let me know if you are having any more problems. Might have to have you rerun combofix to see a current log.
