ok i need to know what norton antivirus shows up as, because mine jus went bad and i want to install avast! antivirus now... i first need the abbreviation that is used in the windows task manager so i can shgut it down then delete it.

thankx ahead of time for your help

wait dont post a friends of mine solved the problem by showing me unlocker, a freeware program that will delete any file you want, which gets rid of the stupid error that was making me have to try and shut the program down, the "Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use." error message. im loving this new program lol, and it only takes up 190KB of space... *YAY UNLOCKER*

Be Very Careful

While I still use Norton's, on my other computer when I did an unstall of it, everything got totally messed up. If you just want to disable Norton, just go into the task manager & stop the process. I don't know why you're going to uninstall Norton's though, it'll do you more harm then good. The one thing I wouldn't get is their Internet Security which really slows things down. If you disregard my warning, whatever registry checking programs you have, I'd use because there are going to be some serious registry problems because of Norton.

you see, when norton is deleted, it STILL leaves behind files that you might not be aware ofidk why, but even i cant delete ALL of the files, and its telling me at start-up that norton is still running, but then it is automatically shut down. sure, there are strange anomolies, but ill live with them. :)

I think AOL Software does the same thing, or it used to years ago, based on my experience. When I uninstalled Norton's- I can't even remember why now, it totally destroyed my Windows 95 Computer system but at least got me to get a better computer with XP. I actually think the Norton's Virus Program is OK, as opposed to the one with Internet Security which will slow browsing down, but as I said, once you install it, it may cause immense problems trying to get rid of it. Good luck.

are they going to delete anything that i dont specify? or do they just delete specified files?

well, i think i've finally deleted the last of notron, good ridance... i'm liking avast! alot, its not as intro-spective as norton and thus doesnt take as much memory or proc to run

EDIT:sweet i didnt see your post. (lol when i ran ccleaner, it took away 1.9GB OF TEMP FILES AND COOKIES!!!!! HOORAY! NOW THIS COMPUTERS RUNNING AWESOME.)
