Cantenna

I bought one of these for my shop to catch the wireless signal from my house. I'm thinking the best place to mount it is outside the shop, fairly high up? The cable from the cantenna to the computer would then need to be fairly long, and I'm concerned about losing signal as it passes through the cable.

I also have a linksys range expander in the shop that isn't quite strong enough to catch the signal from the house. Could I wire the cantenna to the range expander with a short cable, then have the expander transmit the signal to my computer?

its best to make the cantenna cable to the computer as short as possible if you are talking about coax. but i suppose you could plug it into a wifi router, then configure the router to opperate as a repeater-bridge so you could have wireless everywhere in your shop as well as ethernet. this would involve buying a router and upgrading the firmware though(to dd-wrt). also, since wifi routers are more powerful than wireless cards, you might not need a cantenna, just make sure the router is protected from the elements.

hope this helps
