Cap burn speed at 1x

My brother still goes on the notion that burning as slow as possible yields better results. He wants to burn at 1x if at all possible, but Nero only allows 8x as the minimum. Is there some way to bypass this and burn at slower speeds? If all else fails, we have an old external 4x4x6 USB drive he could use, but it'd be nice to keep from changing hardware.

Im no expert but 8x should be slow enough to not loose any data plus Nero has a file verification at the end of any burning

I know I know... I honestly don't think it'd make any difference. I've done stuff in the past at 52x and told him I burnt much slower...the end result was the same  But to make him happy, I'd like to find some method of doing this.

It's possible, I know, because I recall some program that's limited to 1x burns until you purchase the full version. However, he needs to use nero for some reason so that's not an option.

Just to be on the safe side, I burn audio CDs as slowly as possible, and that's 8x with my Nero 6. Sometimes I've had issues with home CD players hiccuping on discs burnt at rates faster than 40x.
