To watch tv (Cable) all i need is a capture card? if so is there any recommended ones for about $100 (Canadian) or under?

Unless you locate a dual purpose expansion device you will need a tv tuner not capture card to connect cable to your system. Some video cards are combos themselves with tuners already builtin. The cost on those of course is as expected seen at higher prices often. One combo card with personal video recorder(PVR), FM radio, and of course tv tuner was found at one Canadien vendor seen here at http://www.memoryexpress.com/index....edProductDetail.php&DisplayProductID=7065&SID=

a tv tuner card does pretty much the same thing as a capture card, ive never come across a capture card that doesnt watch TV
hauppauge is a tv card company however, so with them you can watch tv on your pc. they do PCI and USB tv devices. no i dont advertise for them, just think theyre really good :D

One thing to note on capture cards is they generally don't have the tuner needed to display the type of signal coming in from a cable hookup. Most have a tendency to be analog and fixed for one channel use. The RCA phono jacks for audio and video confirm that too easily. The tuner card offers the tv group for enabling the 125 channels usually seen on basic cable. The input signal would be one selected from a selection list usually seen in a drop down menu in settings. There you choose the type of input between composite, s-video, or cable.
