Card reader headers

I am pricing up anew system build for a friend and he has specified that he wants a Card Reader to be integrated into the front of it "like the ones you see in the shops and on TV" was his quote. Anyway, i found what i was looking for, fits into a 3.5" drvie bay, under the floppy, its got a load of connectors that fit onto mobo headers. I'm wondering, does the mobo actually need to have special "card reader" headers or can i simply plug the connectors onto the pare USB header thats on the mobo.

Also, can anyone tell me if the ASUS P5GD1 board has got the card reader headers or not, i couldnt see them but then i only looked for a few minutes.

Also, any more infor or known compatibility probnlems with this board, feel free to shre them with me.

Thanks, dragon2309.

IIRC when I installed one of those 7-in-1 card readers I just connected the floppy ribbon and it worked.

ive got one thats in a 3.5" drive that plugs into my mobo but not in a usb conector spot i think its a different spot. ill check tonight

Heres a pic of the connector of the one im planning on buying. Does this connect to an ordinary USB mobo header or does the motherboard have to have some kind of special media card reader header for this to work

it isnt the same kind of connection as my one, mine has the wires in little black things that you put over the spikes on the mobo. (do i know the technical lingo or what? lol)

Ok, slghtly off topic now but still kinda related. Does anyone know of a cable or something that will turn internal USB headers (the spikes on the mobo) into an actual USB port. So there would be a USB port inside my PC.

Thanks cromwell and thanks to dan aswell. just to check, i wont need any drivers or anyrthing for that will I. On Win XP that is.

Uh ... most of them connect to USB ... not familiar with these "card reader only headers" you speak of

You are correct and it does connect via FDD cable

Ok, thanks. So you think a standard USB motherboard header would be fine for this then??
Aside from the type that Cromewell pointed out ... what non-USB connections are there for those devices?

i wont need any drivers or anyrthing for that will I. On Win XP that is.
For the most part you wont ... there are some really wierd ones that may (and they come with the drivers) but odds are you'll be fine
