Carrier for me?

Okay, so I am looking for a pre paid phone carrier. I really want GSM, and need pay as you go, as in you put in your credit card and it charges every minute, but not auto refill which charges $20 or more to your card every month and it needs to be able to use a phone you already have.

There are two choices really, Straight Talk and T-Mobile.

T-Mobile has a $30 monthly pay as you go plan with 100 minutes, unlimited texting, and unlimited data. Straight Talk uses either T-Mobile or AT&T and has unlimited voice, unlimited texting, and unlimited* data (actually limited to around 2-3GB), for $45. T-Mobile has other plans as well, but the $30 plan is the most reasonable. If you need more than 100 minutes, you can always use Google Voice with GrooveIP.

Okay, but those are plans. I want a real pay as you go plan, were it charges 20 cents or whatever to your credit card every minute. Boost mobile and gophone have that, but I think it's limited to certain phones, can't use your own phone with that plan.

I would be very Leary of a pay as you go plan with automatic update to your credit card. Just my thought.

Look at Tracfone then, they offer plans that charge on a per minute/text basis, where you have to keep a certain amount of money in your account.

It might be easier if you tell us what you're looking at this for, are you looking at an emergency phone that gets used maybe 1-2 times every couple months? Most places will charge you a monthly fee of some sort, or will cause your balance to expire after a few months.

If by emergency only you mean 911, any phone can call that, even if there is no service attached.

Okay, I guess I could spend around $100 for a one year plan that included like 1000 minutes. I think I will go with platinum tel. They are cheap, have 100 dollar top up cards that last a year, and are gsm with coverage in my area.

I think I'm gonna go with platinum tel. Good reviews and $100 card includes 365 days with only $5 sim cards and 5 cents a minute, 10 cents a MB, and 2 cents a text.
