case cooling

Does anyone know of a way to help me cool this cae, http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1120271&CatId=1847

I have the same case, different color. Problem is there is only one intake fan on the side, and I have two fans on the back being used as outake, and cant figure out anyway to put another intake fan on the front. I was thinking of putting something in the 5.25 or 3.5 drive bay, but cant find anything that would work there. Please help.

There is a fan grill in front of the case for 2X 80mm fan, you can put 2 in there, just remove the front panel . :)

Im not sure where you are reffering to, could you be more specific. I was thinking under the panels covering the 5.25" drive bays, but dont think they would fit. Also, they need to be intake, so there needs to be a a way for them to bring in outside air.

Thanks

Yes, its the one below the panel, right in front of the HDD rack.

you have to try it first, usually the you have an opening on the bottom of the panel, if you think that is not sufficient, drill a hole on the front panel

Cool, thanks a bunch joelkyr, I just noticed that. I'm not sure how air would get in there though, cause the front panel is blocking it, but I will give it a try. Any othe suggestions welcome.

Thanks

you can always pop out on of those 3.5'' bays and use some plastic wrap and direct the airflow to the front fans ;)

Well you can get them 5.25" bay coolers but they wont make an earthshattering difference if the problem is not getting enough heat out of the box fast enough (rather than needing new cool air) ... easiest solition is to cut a hole in the case

You can pop the front panel :) Just be careful and make sure you pop it rather than break it off

One more question, I realized there is this small rectangular vent area on the back of the computer, next to the pci card slots (see picture below). Is this area just for venitalion, or would you put small fans there to help airflow?

there is often a little slit at the bottom of the front panel, this can be used to get your finger it and pull of the from panel...or.... to let air in.

i assume they are just ventilation, i have never seen those before. You would never be able to get a fan in there anyway.

Incidentally, how many fans do you have in there now, and what temperatures are you reading

Right now I have two 80mm fans on back being used as exhaust, and one intake fan on the clear side panel (80mm). My cpu has been pretty worm, idle around 46-52c. I just ordered a xp-90 themalright heat sink with thermaltake 90mm silentCat fan and arctic silver 5, so im hoping that will help.

I might also try taking one of those 80mm fans on back, and putting it up front for intake where joelkyr mentioned, see if that helps.

Okay, and what about the third fan thats left? I thought maybe fan A, intake on front, fan B, intake on side, fan C, exhaust on back.

I've read in different places that it is better to have a 1:2 ratio (intake:exhaust).

This creates a vacuum because you're pulling out hot(less dense) air than what's outside of your pc, so the air outside, cooler air gets sucked in to your case to replace the air that's escaping. Dunno if it makes a whole lot of difference.

Another thing you might want to check out....

Thanks professor for the site and everyone else on the tips, looks pretty useful. I notice you have a pretty powerful cpu there professor, if you dont mind me asking, what kind of heatsink do you use on it, and is it pretty sufficent for cooling it?

Well, I just built this computer last Saturday and it was my first build so I'm no expert.

When I got it up and running and checked my temps they looked pretty high. 45*C idle and 62*C load. My processor burns at 70*C and you want to stay 20*C under that max temp so I'm also trying to get my computer temperature down.

I am using the stock heatsink and fan. I just ordered new fans for my pc to see if better fans will help my temp. If the fans don't help my temp I will replace the stock fan on my heatsink. Then if that doesn't work I'll go for a new heatsink. And if that doesn't work....I don't know what I'll do.

The reason I know about the website I posted is because today I was searching online for the best way to set up fans and I came across this site, and others, that helped out. So I'd figured I'd share the info.

I was wondering, on puttining in an intake fan, would it better to do that on the front panel where the little triangular light is (as can be seen in the diabltoek link above), and cut a space for a fan, or put it in the 3.5" bay slots, and cut a space there?
