Case Fan plugs

My case http://www.nzxt.com/products/tempest/ has fans that have a 4 pin male, 4 pin female, and also a much much smaller 3 pin female connector. I realize the 4 pin male connects to the PS.. anyone explain what the others are for

The small 3 pin is to attach to a fan header on the motherboard. I prefer this as you can usually control the fan from the BIOS. The 4 pin female - I dunno - Maybe to daisy chain the fans off a single molex.

do I need to plug in the molex and the 3 pin MOBO connection?

No, just one or the other. Like said, the female connector is to daisy chain the molex fan connectors together from a single molex power connector.

So I can just plug the 3 pin connector on each fan to the MOBO... there's no way to daisy chain the 3 pin connector, correct?

No, but you can run two fans off of one header with one of these.
