Case Fans?

Im looking for some case fans for my system finding out I only have a heatsink and no fans. On my motherboard CFAN 1 my heatsink is plugged into, NBFAN1 and SFAN1 are empty 3 pin slots. What are the difference between these, can i fit any case fans on them and if yes which way should they point?

Well, thos connections on your m/b are for fan adapters, if they have them, not all fans do. If they do have the adapter, than you can plug it into your m/b and monitor and sometimes change the fan speed through your computer. Fans sometimes cost more to have this connection, so its not always worth it.

I use some led fans by thermalright that are pretty nice and quiet, you might take a look at them. Also check out xoxide.com

The only fan i have that plugs into the m/b is the one on my heat sink. The other 3 case fans just plug into the psu for power.

Edit: You only need to connect them to the m/b if you want to be able to monitor them, the fan speed, and change it, if the fans allow it.

I have 3 standard 80 mm fans, one came with my case, other two by thermalright, and my HSF fan is a 90mm thermalright SilentCat fan. You should have air blow in from the front and out the back.

Hey

The NBfan and SFfan are basically made for the northbridge and the system fans to be used there. You can definitely put the fans in there. Actually, many fans come with three wire combinations (3 pin connectors) and therefore, granted your mobo gets enough juice, those should be used. There are three wires. They are red, black and yellow, with the yellow enabling your mobo to control the RPMs.

Here's what i would recommend as far as airflow is concerned:

I = intake

6 fans?? whoa. ok lol
thanks for your help with the colours of the wires and what nb and sf fan mean.
can you just mount the fans anywhere? because im not sure if ive got space for 6 fans.

that guide is VERY helpful. im going to start with 3 fans i think. because my CPU runs from 60c to over 70c loaded do you think i should replace the heatsink or should the case fans cool down the CPU?

Woooooo, 60-70C is not good at all, for a lot of cpu's they burn that high, New case fans, or some, if you dont have any, will definitely help, may not make a huge difference though. For your cpu you should definitely look into a new HSF, like a heat pipe.

Lol

What I have posted is what I almost have and know works great. However, you will do just fine with less fans. Just make sure that the airflow follows the model that we have suggested. Not all cases have side intake fans for example. Obviously you can add fans where there is a designated place for them.

yeah i dont have room for a side fan. ill put a couple to the front and a couple to the back i think, do they mount easily?

Yeah

They are generally very easy to install. Just get a four sided srewdriver. Along with the fans, you will find 4 screws each. Just screw the fans in. I am sure you know which way the fans blow right?

not sure what you mean? do i know which way is forward on the fans?

Yeah...what I mean is whether you know how to position the fan so that it would blow the direction you want it to.

lol... no i dont, i thought the fans might come with some kind of instructions. And there's another thing.. i dont' think i have anywhere for the fans to go.. im not seeing 4 mounting holes anywhere in my case. hmm.
