Make sure all the surfaces you are painting that you give a good light sanding. You also want to make sure there is no contaminants so when you finish sanding wipe all the areas down with some alcohol. Now If you are just painting a bare metal surface you will not need primer but I recommend it for the best outcome. Plastic surfaces are tricky and you will need to get a plastic primer or the paint with eventually just flake off. When painting you want to do light coats while getting even coverage. Most of the time that can be achieved by having the can (assuming spray can) at a 45o angle about 8 to 10 inches away and sweeping back and forth. It is better to do more coats than less that are thicker. You also want to give the paint time to dry between coats (about 30 minutes). Don't worry about getting paint in any of the screw holes or anything like that as it's easy to fix and most of the time doesn't even come into play. Adding a clear coat will help the durability of the paint so it is a good idea but not necessary. The harddrives and Cdrom just make sure you cover the connections really well. It is very easy to get overspray on things and could really mess the connections up. I have probably missed somethings but I hope some of this can help. Also for the best job I would drill out all the rivets and paint each part separately.

Prep, prep and prep. Then prep again. Preparing the surface is the most important part when painting. Make sure to sand everything down real well. You don't have to sand it down to metal, but make sure everything is evenly "roughed" up. Then use something like mineral spirits or acetone to remove all the oils. Also, its a good idea to use a 1000 grit sand paper and sand in between coats.

sounds liek a lot more work then i was hoping for but thank you *thumbs up
and i should even sand the fins of the fan blades?
they are clear im usin clear glow in the dark paint
ive used water based before on my tv and fan it seems to hold up fine as long as i dont scratch it im wondering if a quick clear coat would make it stand up a bit more to wear and tear i disassemble my case alot

sorry haha im not very good at painting and crap lol so want to make sure i do it right :)

also idk about the rivets thing ahha i do not own a rivet gun nor do i even know how to use one :/ lol
