Case USB not working

Hi,

So, I reinstalled windows xp home and have updated all of my drivers (I believe) and put all the programs back on the desktop.

The problem I am having is when I put my flash memory usb into either the front USB ports on my case or the back ports via pci slot, it makes the "ping noise" that it is in, but whne I go to MY COMPUTER, it shows the usb flash memory icon as if it doesnt have an appropriate file extension. Like, i see the 3.5" icon, both dvd player icons, but the usb icon is white with the standard file icon like if you are trying to open up a file when you dont have the appropriate program to open it up with.

Thank you for your help in advance..

I may not be as expirenced w/ xp as others, but is it an old flash drive? mabye there is a driver for the flash drive? I would say at least check the site, cause it took me awhile to find out that when I had trouble installing 16 old Korg keyboards to 16 new windows computers via a usb midi drive that all I need to do was install the drivers for the usb midi drive. But then for some reason I had to do the install twice, first it opened the driver, and installed it, then I think it installed the same driver again, only so xp could recognize it. Well, at least they are working w/ no problem. why cant every thing be as easy as mac osx? lol XD also, I once had a case where the front usb ports were broken, so I returned the case and got a replacement, and everything worked out.
