Cat5 v Cat5e

doing a thing for college and im struggling to find info on this can anyone add any info?
do both cat5 and 5e have 3twists per inch?
are they both 100MHz
Cat5
Cat5 cable is made up of four twisted pairs of copper wires with typically three twists per inch and 24 gauge copper.
The cable is terminated at both ends with a RJ45 connector.
Cat5 can transmit data at speeds of up to 1000Mbps at a frequency of 100 MHz,
Cat5 can be used in 10Base-T 100Base-T 1000Base-T* networks
Cat5 has a maximum Range of 100 meters
Cat5 is now unrecognized as a cabling standard
• Cat5 can operate at 1000base-T but is not recommended or reliable.


Cat5e
Cat5e is an advancement of cat5.
Cat5e includes specifications for far end crosstalk
Cat5e can operate at the same range speed and frequency of cat 5
Cat5e has no problem on a 1000Base-T network

Your pretty much got it right, in a nutshell that's about it. Cat5 I thought couldn't do 1000mbps. E can, but its still not recommended.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Are you sure its not "Cat5e can do 1000Mbps but it is not recommended"...Where as cat6 is made to run 1000mbps
 
i didnt think cat 5 could handle 1000Mbps i got that info from wiki

cat5e everything ive read says it can handle it
