Catalyst Problem - PLEASE HELP

Hey there.

I just got my new XPS 8300 machine today and decided to download a new catalyst and ati driver. The graphics card is a 5770. When I downloaded the ATI catalyst I noticed that the catalyst only gives one drop-down option: Display manager.

So I decided to uninstall it and install it again from the ati website - again.

Now...When I click on the catalsy icon to run it, it doesn't run. Even when I run as administrator. Sometimes it says "Please make sure another instance of the catalyst is not running". When I check the system programs running, I can't see anything that says catalyst running....

And my screen is still not full. As in, the screen size is not the same size of my actual monitor. That's why I wanted to download the catalyst in the first place.

I uninstalled and then reinstalled the catalyst but still cannot open it up....Whenever I click on it, my cursor gets that blue loading circling which is natural but, don't see the catalyst or anything pop-up.....

PLEASE HELP

First things first you need to compltely delete the current ati drivers, use the unistall function of ccc, or I use revo unistaller as well as the next step to ensure all files are gone.

after you have done this download and run driver sweeper, select ati and get rid of any left over files.

Now please confirm what gpu you have, I just check on the dell site and it and after selected that pc it and then choosing to customize it there was no option to choose the HD5770.
To be sure go into the device manger and under display it should say what it is.
It sounds like you are using 64 bit since this pc would have shipped with at least 4GB, so once your sure what gpu you have (you already may be it might be dell just changing the options on their pcs since you ordered) go to the correct site (nvidia or amd) and choose the correct and most latest driver and the download and install.

If after you install you have the same problem repeat the above and then try an older driver I can direct you where to go for this if you are unsure.

I hate ccc it is awful I had this problem once on my x800 and ccc would not come up no matter what i did, it was a common problem and until amd fixed it there was no solution, at least that i could find, even now sometimes I have to click ccc like 10 times for it to come up once.

Btw what is it with dell there are implying the i5 has HT and 6GB of ram makes no sense on sandy bridge you want 4 or 8 not 6 as it isnt triple channel, and meaning all ram slots are full even the 8GB option uses all 4 dimms and 10GB ram more costs $420.00, wtf dell doesnt use high qulaity parts and for that you could buy 32GB of ram that is high quality and 1600Mhz not 1333Mhz, proof here
