Can you download HWmonitor from CPUID and see what the temps are? My GPU always feels "extremely" hot but at its hottest it's still only at about 60-62 Celsius.
Can you also write down what error message is on the BSOD? Those usually give some sort of insight as to what the issue may be.

a problem has been detected and windows had been shit down to prevent damage to your computer.
if this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. if this appears again, follow these steps:
check to be sure you have adequate disk space. if a driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. try changing video adapters.
check with your hardware vendor for any bios updates. disable bios memory options such as caching or shadowing. if you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press f8 to select advanced startup options, and then select safe mode.

but i started with the 5970 in immediately afterwards and i didn't even get to the windows logo (bsod before then). should i maybe try putting my pc in front of the refrigerator while installing?
also, i have nvidia drivers installed for my physx card (8800gt). the 257.15 drivers allow this. perhaps those are creating problems?
