i have just recently had the problem arise of my computer not being able to burn cds, it can play them fine, but it can not burn them, i tried runing this thing i have that is a cd with little brushes on it to clean the lens, it didnt help i updated my computer, ive restarted it numerous times, i know its not the brand of cd because i have never had this problem before, so any help would be awesome. thanks

Have you tried a few different blanks out of the container? Once in awhile you can get a bad batch of blank media. Another thing is the software you are using. If you are using only one that have developed a software glitch of some type. Get used to tossing some unburnable blanks like frisbees at times. I'm thinking of organizing a competition one of these days! :P

well i tried burning an audio cd with itunes first and it failed, then i tried burning a vcd with nero and it failed also, then finally i tried using the stock sonic recordnow program that came on my computer and it also didnt work, i just tried 5 different blank cds and no luck at all.

well that sucks, the cd drive that came with the computer already broke, so i only had the dvd-rw drive to use and now thats dying, haha darn computers. well if anyone thinks of anything that i could do other than replace it, which is probably what ill end up doing it would be awesome

maybe try to flash it. i'd do it only if planning to get another one anyway, as things could go wrong.

wow i was just on newegg and i didnt think that drives would be that cheap, is lite on a good brand? becuase they have what looks to be pretty high quality drives for cheap. and that is awesome

Lite-On drives usually work out pretty well. Nec, Plextor, Sony, and a few other brands don't usually see many complaints. When the other cd drive quit did you move the burner around at all? If you have on the end of the secondary make sure the drive's jumper is set as master.

lite on is a pretty good brand. i currently have a nec (and i hope i'm not jinxing myself) and i've never had an issue with mine.

I stay away from Liteon... I've had trouble out of my previous few devices. My LiteOn DVD-Recorder(worked like a VCR) quit finalizing disks. Then mine(and my dad's) LiteOn DVD-ROM's both started to act up.

NEC is a very good brand. Probably the best for the price. I have two of them here and neither have ever acted up on me. I don't think I've made any "coasters" either!

ive been looking on newegg and ive narrowed it down to this nec and this samsung. any opinions on the samsung? the reviews on both seem pretty positive with a couple negative ones.

I've seen excellent results running Sony drives here. Others have seen problems with Samsung while looking at LG.

i like the nec drive a lot, i still cant get over how little the drives cost now, i got my dvd rw drive about a year or two ago and i paid like 100 bucks for it, and these ones that are on newegg are way better than the one i have.
